A Rosary for Dale Henry Witte will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on
Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.
The Funeral Mass is being offered by Father Ed Cortney Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 at
11:00 a.m. also at St. Patrick’s followed by graveside serves at Calvary
Cemetery.
Declining in Health, Dale died at the age of 89 on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 at
the Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Casper, Wyo., with his family closely
attending him.
He was born Feb. 23, 1918 in Friend, the first of seven children born to Herman
and Augusta Witte. He attended schools in Gordon, Rushville, Rapid City, and
Chadron and graduating from Chadron High School.
Joining his father and brothers in ranching operation on the Pine Ridge Indian
Reservation in South Dakota, he courted Phyllis Lillian Allen. They married in
1950 and raised five children. Their youngest son, Mare died at the age of 18 of
Muscular Dystrophy.
Dale was active in the local community around Porcupine, S.D., serving on the
Shannon County School Board for more than twenty years. Innovative in
farming/ranching techniques he adopted many practices from the Natural Resources
Conservation Service.
After Phyllis’ death in 1989 he moved to Rapid City and spent several years
working part-time and living with long time friend Estel Hynes and after her
death lived independently. He kept active and busy going for walks and eating a
healthy diet until 2006 when he moved to Casper to live with his daughters.
He was preceded in death by his brother: Glen, his parents; Herman and Augusta;
his son: Marc, and his sister: Dorothy; and his wife Phyllis.
Survivors include his sisters: Laverne Anderson of Albuquerque, N.M., Phyllis
McDill of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brothers: Earl (Joe) Witte of Edgemont, S.D., Carl
(Pete Witte of Chadron; children: Glen and wife Jane Witte of Lincoln;
daughters: Jacque and husband Jerry Britton of Casper, Wyo., Judi and husband
Mike Heidebrecht of Clovis, Calif., and Lillian Witte of Casper; twelve
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren with multiple nieces, nephews and
cousins.

Witte Family Memories:
1920: Financial conditions were bad, came out to Montana to look over area
in a Model T Ford, camped out, checked out Yellowstone, Billings, MT.
In 1926, N------- & Uncle Albert went to w---. Dad was farming corn
at Loup City , Nebraska. Used corn stalks as feed in winter, had 8 teams &
in spring had one left.
They looked over Platte River valley
