He inherits the farmyard (Lusebrink) and marries on November 23, 1852 at Horn
Maria Anna Annhorst of Bokel near Rietberg.

(The “?” must indicate there was some question on the marriage date or location.  A search of
the International Genealogical Index of the Church of the Latter Day Saints turned up the
information that Theodor Balz and Maria Anna Ahnhorst were married on
November 23, 1852 in the Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist at Reitberg(Kr. Wiedenbrück)
according to the Church Record from 1806 – 1873.  The reference is Batch No. M985693,
                           Source Call No. 1052303.)

Note on Theodor's godparent Engelbert Balz::
The barn-house built by Engelbert Balz and Catherine Elizabeth Kaltenhöfer, dated over the “Greatdoor”
July 29, 1810, still stands in the village of Schmerlecke facing the Siedhoff house and distillery.  In other words, this would be the barn-house of the godfather of the author's Great Grandfather.  It is a very typical Lower Saxon Bauernhaus or “Einhaus” which housed and protected the family, the animals, and the store of grain under one roof.

Door post on house of Engelbert Balz and Catherine Elizabeth Kaltenhofer.

Engelbert Balz house dated July 29, 1810.

This house is of interest for several reasons.  It is a late version of the Saxon Baruernhaus typical of the the region.  It is one of only a few remaining Baurernhauses in the village of Schmerlecke.   It, along with the Pehle-Düßberg baurernhaus built by Kasimir Balz, are Balz family houses.  Both houses are adjacent to the Siedhoff house & distillery.  On the opposite side of the Siedhoff property , the ancient earthworks are still evident of a Bals-Lusebrink dwelling that existed from an unknown date until about 1802.  After the destruction of that dwelling by floods, the family returned to the "place of their ancestors' and constructed a dwelling on Lusebrink which we can assume was of the same Saxon Bauernhaus style.  This house was the birthplace of Henry Anton and was destroyed by fire  in the late 1890's.  The "Greatdoor" is built into the entrance hall of the current house on Lusebrink.

                    4.   Maria Franziska    19.5.1827
Paten:   Maria Franziska Balz gen. Duesberg (Düßberg),  Theodor Rickert gen. Stilleke.

                    5.   Elisabeth   2.1.1830    + 6.1.1848
Paten:   Elisabeth Kaltenhöfer gen. Buck, Sophia geb. Alpmann gen. Lohagen.

                    6.   Antonetta   12.9.1834     + 16.6.1884
Paten:   Antonetta Alpmann gen. Tiemann,  Gertrud Balx gen. Schulte in Wamein
