This house is of interest for several reasons. It is a late version of the Saxon Baruernhaus typical of the the region. It is one of only a few remaining Baurernhauses in the village of Schmerlecke. It, along with the Pehle-Düßberg baurernhaus built by Kasimir Balz, are Balz family houses. Both houses are adjacent to the Siedhoff house & distillery. On the opposite side of the Siedhoff property , the ancient earthworks are still evident of a Bals-Lusebrink dwelling that existed from an unknown date until about 1802. After the destruction of that dwelling by floods, the family returned to the "place of their ancestors' and constructed a dwelling on Lusebrink which we can assume was of the same Saxon Bauernhaus style. This house was the birthplace of Henry Anton and was destroyed by fire in the late 1890's. The "Greatdoor" is built into the entrance hall of the current house on Lusebrink.
