Theodor Balz   9.10.1820    + 15.2.1905
und Maria Anna Ahnhorst   + 11.1.1884

 Kinder:       1.   Maria Christine Bernardine     14.11.1853     +13.11.1898
Paten:  Anna Maria Kaltenhöfer, Anton Ahnhorst-Rietberg,
                          Bernardine gen. Ahnhorst.

Sie heiratet einen Rickert aus Schmerlecke  (?)

She was united in marriage to Rickert of Schmerlecke.

                   2.   Franz Ferdinand Joseph gen. Joseph     29.6.1855    + 3.5.1930
Paten:   Ferdinand Ahnhorst, Franziska Balz gen. Duesberg,
                         Joseph Balz.

He is the  inheritor of the farmyard (Lusebrink) and married Raimunda Siedhoff of Schmerlecke
on July 8, 1890.  The wedding ceremony was performed by the Vicar Franz Balz of Bochum.
The wife died on April 4, 1895 of lung disease.

The widower married Theresia Koch-Schulte of Bökenförde in 1897.

After the wedding and in the later years of the 1890’s he spells his name with an “s” – Bals.

                  3.    Peter Ferdinand Heinrich    7.10.1856   nach Amerika  went to Amerika.
Paten:   Ferdinand Ahnhorst aus Boxel,  Friederika Sultrop geb. Fenne aus Merklinghausen,
                         Heinrich Bals

Er heirataet  H. Schiekhoff aus Herringhausen.  (?).  He married H. Schiekhoff of Herringhausen  (?)

(The information that he married a Schiekhoff was determined to be incorrect during the author's
                        visit
to Lusebrink farm on July 11, 1975.  Peter Ferdinand, known as Ferdinand, married
Henriette Köhler of Schmerlecke.  The 1900 Census of Saline County Nebraska indicates that they
were married for 15 years (married in 1885).  It tells that Ferdinand immigrated to the
United States that same year, 1885, and Henrietta immigrated in 1887.  It also indicates an
unusual situation in that the eldest daughter Bertha, was born in March 1885 in Germany.
The census tells that she immigrated to the United States in 1886.  She would have been
approximately one year old and would have come to the U.S. one year before her mother.
A column of the census further indicates that they declared in 1900 that  Ferdinand had been in
the U.S. for 15 years, his wife Henrietta for 13 years, and their Daughter Bertha for 14 years.
This repetition of information would seem to eliminate any error in the census report.  I have no
documentation or information as to who would have brought Bertha to the United States.
The 1900 Census lists the following children in the household; Bertha (15), Anna M.(12),
                       Clements F.(7), Joseph H.(5), Fritz F.(4), William (2), and Theodore (1).

               4..    Anna Josephine    18.4.1858    11.12.1863
Paten:   Anna WeiBorock gen. Lohägener aus Seringhausen, Heinrich Bals,  osephine Spätling
                        aus Bökum.

                5.
.   Heinrich Anton   21.12.1859   nach Amerika  went to Amerika.
Paten:   Kaplan Heinrich Ahnhorst in Neuenkirchen, Anton Spätling aus Bökum,
Maria Bals gen. Hense – Schmerlecke

                     Er heiratete Köhler (?).

The information that he married a Köhler was incorrect and it was verified during my visit of
July 11, 1975 to Lusebrink farm; the Köhler family of Schmerlecke; the home of Elizabeth & Fritz
Berkemeier of Herringhausen, niece and nephew of Elizabeth (Rickert-Berkemeier) Bals; and
by the 1900 Census for Dorchester Precinct,  Saline County, Nebraska, that my grandfather,
Heinrich Anton, known as Henry, immigrated to the United States in 1889.  Elizabeth
Rickert-Berkemeier of Herringhausen immigrated in 1891 and they were married on
March 10, 1891.  The location of their marriage is in question..  The information from
Delmer, Ella’s son, is that Henry returned to Germany for Elizabeth and they were married there.
The possible locations would be in Heringhausen, the church at Horn, the church in Smerlecke,
or the chapel on Lusebrink Farm.   The Nebraska Gazetteer Farmers Directory for 1890-91 lists
Henry Bals as a farmer at Bellwood and Ferdinand in David City.  This is substantiated by my
father’s verbal information that his father farmed in the David City area immediately after coming
to Nebraska from Germany.   My father, Henry Ferdinad, was born on a farm west of Crete in
1895..   The 1900 Census fpr Saline County lists the following children in the Henry Bals
household, Theodore (8), Henry (6), Elizabeth (4), Augusta (2), Matilda (8 mo.).   The date of the
census information was June 15, 1900.

Elizabeth & Fritz Berkemeier also confirmed that Henry & Elizabeth Bals, upon a return visit to
Germany, took Elizabeth’s sister Lena to the United States.  They pointed out the former  location
of the barn-house where Lena injured her leg in a floor threshing machine, resulting in
amputation of the leg. Henry & Elizabeth, with their children Theodore and Henry,  apparently
returned to Lusebrink farm for a visit in either 1894 or 1895.  Dad (Henry) told me that he returned
to Germany with his parents when he was one year old.

             6.   Franz   6.12.1861
Paten:   Franz Bals, Franz Ahnhorst, Anna Maria Ahnhorst aus Mastholte.

Er Wurde Geistlicher und starb als Pastor zu Elsen am.
He became clergyman and died as a minister to Elsen.

           7.   Anton Theodor    5.3.1864   + 1.7.1934
Paten:   Anton Ahnhorst, Anton Spätling, Henriette Fornhoff aus Schmerlecke.

Er heiratet am 23.6.1898 Elisabeth Wrede aus Schmerlecke.

He married Elisabeth Wrede of Schmerlecke on June 23, 1898.

This Theodor is the great-grandfather of Bettina Balz:  http://www.balz.name/

          8.   Anna   15.1.1866

She went on November 6, 1889 to the Convent Maria-Hilf Dernbach to receive the veil of the
Sisters A.D.M.J.  She still lives there today (May 1952).

         9..   Augusta Gertrud   2.12.1867    + 22.  .1951
Paten:   Augusta Ahnhorst, Gertrud Reker-Ebbinghausen, Heinrich Overhoff-Drensteinfurt

Sie hat ihrem Geistlichen Bruder Franz den Haushalt geführt
She ran the household for her brother, clergyman Franz.Balz.

Lena Rickert corresponded with Augusta until her death in 1952..
